The business of art is not doing well. In California and New York some of the “established” high end art and craft shows are cancelling their events, not because of anticipated low public attendance, but because the artists themselves can’t affort to participate!! I’ve been told “it’s the economy stupid”. We’re talking starving artists here ’cause some of these artists are even threatening to get a job a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We’re really at a low point when artists are forced to get a job; come on, it’s either/or. We’ve already got jobs thus the title artist, not hobby persoon, or sometimy when I’m in the mood artists, we’re at work. It just doesn’t pay very regularly.
So, I’ve been applying to art shows and festivals for years trying to get exposure, sell, and travel with my art. I had to learn to be a cutting edge painter. I say learn it ’cause I don’t know what a cutting artist is. I found out what it isn’t, that’s me it was me till I got my mind right (anyone remember Cool Hand Luke?). I had an epiphany of sorts. Anyway, I just started painting, completely different from before I got my mind right. I was watching a special on tv about Henri Matisse, they were showing his paintings, and it just hit me – what he was doing with his painting, was an inspiration. And I just went bought some canvas, and went to it. And, I think, yes, I think it could be, is it possible!…..Cutting Edge Art!!!!!!
It seems to me that cutting edge art is a state of art that appeals to people with money who can finance/own high end art galleries, who don’t rely on foot traffic. One of my new style paintings was accepted into a show in New York.
What do you think?
I’m hoping there are people who just like to talk art; what is it, what are the requirements – ever thought about it that way? I heard a statistic that 125 out of 1000 people clasify themselves as an artist. Is there enough room in the world for us all? Kinda’ minimizes the glamour of being an artist, like everyone can be one, just label yourself and you become one. I’m ramblin’ on ’cause I’m an artist and I do what I want, call myself what/who I want, and act out ’cause I can. What do you have to say? And you 875 out of 1000 people who are just ordinary people. What’d you say?…….
